Layers, keep moving and have those little hand warmer things. Allergic to merino wool and do not like miso soup but home made lentil is good as it holds the heat well.
Great newsletter this week! We usually take hot chocolate and leave it in the car for after snowshoeing, but I like the idea of having a smaller bottle of hot tea or chocolate for when we are out. I'm considering getting everyone in the family a small themos like the GSI one you mentioned. I'm curious though, how does the locking mechanism perform on the bottle? I see there are two very similar bottles from GSI, one with a flip top and one with a screw top. Particularly for smaller kids (4 & 6), do you think we would have issues with the fip top lid? Thanks!
I have the GSI flip top lid and also a Klean Kanteen bottle with a screw top. The flip lid is super simple (just press a button) and I imagine for kids it would be more fun, as it really flips up. The only thing would be to make sure it's locked after, but the lock mechanism is straightforward. I find the GSI flip top much easier to use in the winter, with mitts on, than the Klean Kanteen screw top.
Yes. If I'm bringing it with me, not leaving it in a car, I tend to keep it upright inside my backpack, and have never had issues with the latch accidentally opening.
I could not agree more with dry clothes for the drive home. For the ladies out there- a dry bra for the drive feels heavenly and saves you chills. And for everyone- dry pair of socks is a total must!!!! -Dasha
A mug of hot Chai is my go to drink! Great newsletter!
You two nailed it! Simple effective tips - miso & merino for us here.
Glad to hear you enjoy the miso & merino as well!
Re holes in merino: my adult daughter and I gently darn the holes...

That's good advice about being able to screw open a bottle with mitts, I hadn't thought of that. Is the latch pretty secure?

Awesome, thanks!
